Death Note is an upcoming live-action Netflix television series. It will be based on the Death Note manga and anime series. Halia Abdel-Meguid will be writing the series, with Abdel-Meguid, Matt Duffer, and Ross Duffer executive producing.
This is a new adaptation and not related to Netflix's 2017 live-action film.
Development[]
The new Death Note live-action television series was first announced on July 6, 2022. The Duffer Brothers, following the success of their Netflix series Stranger Things, launched a new production company, Upside Down Pictures, as part of an overall deal with Netflix. They announced a slate of planned Netflix projects including a new live-action television adaptation of Death Note, which is "an entirely new take" and not a sequel to Netflix's 2017 film adaptation.[1][2]
On October 20, 2022, Deadline reported that Halia Abdel-Meguid was writing and executive producing with the Duffer Brothers. It was also reported that the producers of the 2017 film adaptation, including Roy Lee and Dan Lin, would return to executive produce the new series.[3]
Trivia[]
- This will be the second live-action television series adaptation of Death Note. The first was the 2015 Japanese drama.
