A Japanese-language production of Death Note: The Musical ran from June 24 to September 24, 2017. This production toured through multiple locations in Japan and Taiwan, with its main performance running from September 2 to September 24, 2017 at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Japan. It was the second Japanese-language production of the musical, and the fourth full production of the musical in any language.

The new production of Death Note: The Musical was announced on September 29, 2016. The announcement stated the the production would be in the New National Theatre, Tokyo, Japan in September of 2017, with additional performances in Toyoma and Osaka. The performances in Taiwan were announced much later, on April 12, 2017.[1]

Most of the main cast returned from the 2015 production. Of the main cast members, only Soichiro, Ryuk, and Sayu were newly cast.

Ahead of the full musical production, the main cast had four concert performances of Death Note: The Concert in March 2017, featuring music from the show.[2]

Dates of the concert:

  • March 4 – 5, 2017 in Tokyo, Japan
  • March 11, 2017 in Osaka, Japan

Locations[]

Unlike previous performances, this one performed at multiple locations in Japan, and also went overseas to perform in Taiwan. The cast had three Japanese-language performances at the National Taichung Theater in Taichung, Taiwan.[1]

Live recordings[]

Two of the live performances were recorded for television broadcast, one featuring Urai as Light, and one featuring Kakizawa as Light. Both were recorded on September 14, 2017 at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Japan. The first, with Urai as Light, aired on December 2, 2017. The second, with Kakizawa as Light, aired on January 13, 2018.[6][7][8]
